Healthcare and Biotechnology Venture Challenge 2009

sanofi pasteur Healthcare and Biotechnology Venture Challenge (HBVC)!

Top MBA students and scientists/innovators compete for over $10,000 in prizes by co-developing feasible commercialization plans or business proposals addressing real-world innovative healthcare technologies. The winner of the competition will also receive an advisory services package worth over $2,500 from MaRS Business Services. This competition is designed to foster and encourage promising business students and scientists to develop an interest in health sciences commercialization as well as to strengthen the relations between the two communities. Ultimately, this competition will contribute to building a vibrant convergent medical technologies sector in Ontario.

This competition has been uniquely positioned to fulfill the following objectives:
  • Offer entrepreneurial business students the opportunity to work with inventors in real-world business scenarios
  • Foster an entrepreneurial culture
  • Enable inventors to assess the feasibility of inventions from a commercial perspective
  • Encourage collaborations to strengthen relations between the scientific and business communities
  • Enable business/scientific teams to gain direct exposure to the private sector and the investment community
  • Help researchers improve their chances of accessing CIHR, NSERC and other proof of principle funding opportunities as well as licensing agreements
A panel of judges from the business community, including Borys Chabursky, President of SHI Consulting Inc. and Roman Masley, Managing Director of SHI Capital Inc., will evaluate executive summaries and commercialization plan submissions based on a predetermined set of criteria.
